Register

Register your business with SSNIT and make sure each worker has a SSNIT number.

2

Deduct 5.5%

Take 5.5% of each worker's basic salary from their pay.

3

Add 13%

As the employer you add 13% of basic salary. Total: 18.5%.

4

Split it

Pay 13.5% to SSNIT (Tier 1 — 2.5% of this goes to NHIA) and 5% to the worker's Tier 2 scheme.

5

By the 14th

📌What you need to know

  • Contributions are on basic salary, not on allowances.
  • Late payment attracts a surcharge of 3% a month on the unpaid amount, compounding until paid.
  • The 5.5% you deduct belongs to the worker — keeping it is a serious offence.
  • Tier 2 goes to a privately managed occupational scheme chosen for your staff.

Calculating SSNIT on total pay including allowances.
