Academy›🤝 Customers and selling

Selling on credit safely

Credit limits, written records and collecting what you are owed.

⏱ 6 min Lesson 1 of 3
1

Decide who

Offer credit only to customers you know, with a written limit.

2

Write it down

Every credit sale: customer, items, amount, due date — and their signature or confirmation.

3

Follow up

Review who owes you every week, oldest first.

4

Stop at the limit

No new credit until the old balance is paid down.

📌What you need to know

  • The older a debt, the less likely it is to be paid: chase anything over 30 days.
  • A polite reminder by WhatsApp on the due date works better than a visit a month later.
  • Offer a small discount for paying early, rather than a large one to settle a bad debt.
  • Credit is a loan from your business. Price it in.

⚠️Common mistakes

Keeping credit in your head.
Giving more credit to a customer who is already late.
Waiting months before asking for payment.
💡
Tip. Run an aging report every Monday and call the three oldest balances first.
